MANILA – The Philippine National Police confirmed the death of former Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo “Ardot” Parojinog in his prison cell on Friday.

Parojinog was facing drug and firearms charges when he died in his cell at 6 a.m. today.

The head of the PNP, Camilo Cascolan, ordered an investigation into his death.

Parojinog was the younger brother of the late Mayor of Ozamiz Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog, whom President Rodrigo Duterte linked to illegal drug trafficking. The mayor was killed in a drug bust.

Ardot went into hiding for 10 months before being detained in Taiwan in 2018 for entering the country using illegal documents. He was sentenced to 3 months in prison and a fine of NT $ 1,000 (about P1,750) per day.
