After practicing this sport for 18 years, Amanda Villanueva retires from volleyball.

The 28-year-old attacker made the announcement in a Twitter post Thursday, saying she “will move on to the next chapter of my life.”

“I don’t know what the future holds, but it sure is bright as I imagine it,” he wrote.

“I will officially say my goodbyes as a professional athlete. I hope that my future children, wherever they may be in the future, will receive the same amount of love, care and support that I felt in the 18 years of practicing this sport.”

Villanueva was first recruited by De La Salle at UAAP, but was best known for her success with Adamson upon transfer.

With Lady Falcons, Villanueva won the UAAP beach volleyball title in 2013 and led the university to Final Four campaigns in seasons 75 and 76.

After turning pro, Villanueva immediately made a mark by helping a stacked PLDT core win a pair of titles in Shakey’s 2015 V-League season. He later played for Banko Perlas Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League until 2018 before ending his career with Sta. Lucia in the Philippine Super League last year.

“Thank you Volleyball. Thank you to the Community. You will always be in my heart. Long live life!” she closed.
