MANILA – The Internal Revenue Office announced Tuesday that it will once again extend the deadline for registering online sales businesses until September 30.

The limit for online sellers to register their businesses was supposed to be only until today.

But in a memorandum circular, the BIR said there was “an increase in registrations in various revenue district offices that are trying to beat the deadline.”

“Considering this and the Office’s resource limitations at this time from quarantine protocols due to the COVID L9 pandemic, the deadline is further extended to September 30, 2020,” the tax agency said.

The BIR said companies that involve digital or online transactions are advised to register their business on or before September 30 to avoid penalties for late registration.

“It is recalled that all those who are later doing business without complying with the registration / update requirements, and those who did not declare past due / unpaid taxes will be imposed with the applicable penalties according to the law and existing income rules and regulations” said the BIR.

The government previously said that online sellers making less than P250,000 a year are exempt from paying taxes, but will still need to register.
