At least three teams from the Philippine Football League (PFL) will return to training on Wednesday as a possible prelude to the PFL’s plan to open its 2020 season.
Philippine Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta and PFL Commissioner Coco Torre said they are ensuring that teams, especially players, are in a safe environment when they return to the gyms and to field.
“Everyone is looking forward to resuming training,” Araneta said in Tuesday’s online version of the Philippine Sports Association (PSA) Forum.
Torre said United City Football Club, Kaya Iloilo and Stallion Laguna are ready to return to training, while Mendiola and the Azkals Development Team will follow suit.
Araneta said the PFL teams were to have a virtual meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Games and Entertainment, Abraham Mitra, also on Tuesday to discuss the return to training protocols.
“It’s a matter of reminding teams about player safety and venue security,” said Araneta of the PFL, one of the few professional leagues authorized to resume training during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Each club has its own responsibility to ensure that players follow safety protocols,” added Araneta.
Torre said the PFF teams have been reminded of the importance of “due diligence.”
“Cooperation is vital,” Torre said during the forum supported by San Miguel Corp., Milo, Go For Gold, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., Amelie Hotel and Braska Restaurant, and powered by Smart Sports with Upstream Media as streaming partner Web.
Torre also said that the new Maharlika FC team will be admitted to the PFL once the team obtains its professional license from the GAB.
“Once everything is cleared up, the league is preparing for its resumption 30 days after the return of their clubs to training, whether in a bubble format or not,” Torre said.
