MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation adds another crossover to its stable with the debut of the next-generation Yaris Cross in Japan, bringing the qualities of the compact hatch to its compact SUV body.
The bodywork sits atop the Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) B-platform that emphasizes svelte proportions without losing the rugged exterior qualities of an SUV. It comes in eight colors, including the newly developed Brass Gold Metallic and the more three-dimensional Silver Metallic, plus seven two-tone color types.
The interior features soft-touch materials from slush trim and door trim felt material, a color TFT multi-information LCD, a front display (HUD), and a 390-liter luggage capacity (leader in its class for compact SUVs) when the deck board is lowered. It’s Toyota’s first compact SUV to also feature a 40/20/40 split rear seat and a 60/40 split adjustable deck platform.
The tailgate offers a hands-free power function that is activated by simply kicking your foot under the rear bumper, which is a first for a Toyota compact SUV, and opens and closes almost twice as fast in compared to a conventional Toyota SUV.
Under the hood are two engine options, a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder Dynamic Force petrol engine mated to a direct-shift CVT (continuously variable transmission) and a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder Dynamic Force hybrid engine that It uses a four-cylinder electric motor. all-wheel drive system (a first for a Toyota compact SUV).
The four-wheel drive setting has Multi-Terrain Select, another first for a Toyota compact SUV, which offers three driver assistance modes, including Trail and Snow mode.
To increase your level of safety, the new Yaris Cross comes with Toyota Safety Sense which features Pre-Collision Safety System, Low Speed Throttle Control, Emergency Steering Assistant, Full Speed Range Radar Cruise Control, Adaptive High Beam System, Traffic Signal Assist, Secondary Collision Brake, Blind Spot Monitor, S-VSC with Crosswind Control and Toyota Teammate Advanced Park (Advanced Driving Assist).
