MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte will appoint the new director of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) during his speech Monday night, Aug. 31, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said in a message from text.
Earlier in the week, Duterte asked Morales to resign from his position due to his “intermittent health situation.”
Morales then submitted his resignation, which Duterte accepted.
Prior to that, Morales took medical leave as he had been battling lymphoma and undergoing treatment.
He was fired when PhilHealth officials, including himself, were under a Senate investigation into alleged anomalies plaguing the agency.
However, Morales assured that he will continue to cooperate with ongoing investigations at PhilHealth involving its alleged overpriced information technology project and the questionable release of funds under its interim refund mechanism, among others.
