MANILA, Philippines – Philippine-American featherweight John Leo Dato extended his undefeated streak to 15 after overwhelming Mexican Angel Guevara on Saturday (Manila time) at Papas & Beer in Rosarito Beach, Baja, Mexico.
Dato was relentless and only needed three rounds to handle Guevara, who was brought down in the third after a series of punches.
Guevara managed to get up, but Dato (15-0-1, 10 knockouts) hit the Mexican veteran against the ropes before the referee intervened and stopped the fight.
The victory marked Dato’s 10th straight victory, while Guevara fell to 16-15-4 and has now lost seven of his last eight bouts.
“15-0 (10 KOs!) On the mission. God is good. Thank you all for your support, ”Dato, 27, posted on Facebook.
The fight was Dato’s first this year after fighting six times in 2019, which included a fifth-round knockout victory over Mexican Juan Antonio Lopez on the Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman headliner undercard in Las Vegas.
Born to Filipino parents, Dato is originally from Bangar, La Unión, but now resides in Santa Maria, California, where he owns and operates the JLD Boxing Academy and also works as a personal fitness trainer.
