Labor Group to Duterte: We will not forget ABS-CBN job loss

ONE DAY after several regional ABS-CBN stations were forced to close, Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa in Progresibong Manggagawa (Sentro) told President Rodrigo Duterte that he will not forget his actions that have caused thousands of people to lose their jobs.

In a statement, Sentro said its members will forever remember Duterte’s actions in sacrificing thousands of workers in his bid to successfully take revenge on the broadcasting giant.

“Duterte has chosen to sacrifice the livelihoods of thousands of ABS-CBN workers, and thousands more around its facilities and operations, for his personal revenge,” Sentro said.

“Instead of showing compassion, where it is most needed, the Philippine strongman has shown the truth: his policy serves his interests and those of his allies,” he added.

The labor group said it will use the pain caused by Duterte on thousands of ABS-CBN workers to prepare for the time when Duterte and his allies can already be held accountable for their anti-worker acts.

“Sentro and the thousands of affected workers will never forget the Duterte regime’s assault on our dignity and well-being,” he said.

“We will ensure that when the time comes, our unions, communities and movements will be ready to hold Duterte and his allies accountable for their actions,” he added.

At least 4,000 ABS-CBN employees have already lost their jobs, and a large portion came after the company was forced to close many of its regional stations.

The closure of regional stations is the latest adverse effect of Congress’s refusal to renew the ABS-CBN franchise.

Duterte has previously taken credit for rejecting a new broadcast license for ABS-CBN. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
