COTABATO CITY – At least eight people were killed in a shooting in the city of Kabacan, Cotabato province, on Saturday, police said.
Major Peter Pinalgan jr, Kabacan City Police Chief, said the incident happened around 12:30 pm
The victims, all men, were standing on the side of Aringgay Road near the South Mindanao University compound when armed men on a motorcycle passed by and opened fire.
Lieutenant Ernie John Saratao, Kabacan Police Deputy Chief of Operations, identified the fatalities as Kors Salilangan, Sandigan Zailon, Benladin Dimanalao, Romeo Balatamay, Katindig Kagayawon and Fahad Mandigan, all residents of Kabacan City; Budsal Lipusan from the town of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao; and Musaid Jaiden from the city of Midsayap in the province of Cotabato.
Another victim was seriously injured and is now admitted to a hospital.
Citing witnesses, Saratao said one of the victims managed to return fire but was defeated.
Police are considering the possibility that the shooting was sparked by a family or family dispute.
