A delivery driver became the savior of a 14-year-old husky after he rescued the creature from drowning in its owners’ swimming pool.

John Cassabria heard an alarming noise while delivering packages on August 6 in Massachusetts, USA, the CW affiliate WHDH reported on Thursday, August 27.

The Amazon delivery man got out of his truck to check where the sound was coming from, only to find the husky named Luka barely keeping his body afloat in a buried pool.

Cassabria allegedly jumped over the owner’s fence and got into the pool to rescue the dog.

“I had my shoes on, I had a watch, phone, wallet, everything in my pocket,” he was quoted as saying. “None of that mattered at the time, all of that is replaceable, one life is not and I just walked in.”

Luka was apparently unable to get out of the water due to his old age and exhaustion from trying to stay afloat.

The dog’s owners were on vacation when the incident occurred. Cassabria stayed with Luka for over an hour until animal control arrived.

The animal control representative knew the owners and notified them about the rescue that occurred in their pool.

Gary Caldwell, Luka’s owner, said the dog generally doesn’t go near the water.

A bone wrapped in the pool vacuum’s cord may have caused the dog to accidentally dive into the pool, according to CBS-owned WBZ on the same day.

The dog’s owners added that Luka’s hind legs fail and that he usually never swims. They also noted that it would not have lasted long if Cassabria had not come to the rescue.

“It turned out to be at the right time at the right time,” the delivery driver said in the report. “I would repeat the same actions over and over if I had to.” /outside
