Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 29) – The country recorded another increase in coronavirus infections with a total of 213,131 on Saturday, the Health Department announced.
The department said 3,637 more people contracted the virus, mostly from Metro Manila, where 2,030 more residents became ill. It is followed by the province of Laguna with 217 new cases, Rizal with 155, Cavite with 142 and Batangas with 113 more infections, detailed the DOH case bulletin. Of the newly reported cases, 3,063 or 84 percent were detected in the past 14 days.
There are also 74,611 active cases or patients currently ill, of which 91.3 percent have mild symptoms, 6.7 percent have no symptoms, 1.1 percent are in critical condition, and 0.8 percent they are serious cases, the agency added.
The total survivor count also rose to 135,101 with 655 new recoveries, while the death toll reached 3,419 after 94 more patients succumbed to the disease.
Of the recently reported deaths, one died in June, 12 in July and 81 in August, the DOH noted.
The department said the new cases come from 102 of 110 COVID-19 labs in the country. DOH also removed 50 duplicate cases from the total, including 16 recoveries. There were 12 previously reported recoveries that were actually nine deaths and three cases, the agency clarified.
The Department of Foreign Affairs also announced five new COVID-19 infections among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total infected to 10,067 in 73 countries. 28 more were recovered, bringing the number of survivors to 6,123, while the death toll stood at 755, DFA said. Of these cases, 1,960 were verified by health officials, the department reported.
