Drex’s brother-sister Filipino tandem and Denice Zamboanga emerged victorious at ONE: A NEW BREED held on Friday night in Bangkok, Thailand. The undercard, broadcast live in more than 150 countries, featured some of the world’s most promising young martial arts stars and battle-tested veterans who put on incredible in-ring performances at ONE Championship.

Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga, the top ranked women’s atomweight contender, authored an exquisite first-round performance by Thai national judo champion Watsapinya “Dream Girl” Kaewkhong. After dominating the standing exchanges early on, Zamboanga brought the matter down with a successful takedown. From there, “The Menace” made its way to the side control, running an Americana textbook shortly after to force the tap.

In a ONE Super Series women’s strawweight muay thai contest, two-time Thai national muay thai champion Wondergirl Fairtex scored another impressive victory, stopping KC “Pinay Fight” Carlos of the United States and the Philippines in two rounds. Wondergirl was relentless in her forward movement, peppering Carlos with combinations of direct punches and step elbows. In the second round, an elbow did considerable damage to the Filipino-American’s nose. A short time later, Carlos and her corner signaled to the referee that she could no longer continue.

Drex “T-Rex” Zamboanga, meanwhile, made a successful ONE Championship debut, defeating Thai Detchadin “Detchpool” Sornsirisuphathin via submission in the second round. Zamboanga started the fight, slowly advancing behind complex boxing and fast hand combinations. Detchadin stood right in front of the Filipino star, ready to exchange blows in the center of the ONE Championship ring. Zamboanga continued his surprising tirade in the second round, mixing in a handful of takedowns for good measure. On the mat, Zamboanga grabbed his opponent’s back and executed a rear choke, putting Detchadin to sleep just before the bell.

In the main event of the night, ONE Super Series rookie Allycia Hellen Rodrigues from Brazil scored a shocking surprise over now-former world champion Stamp Fairtex from Thailand to win by close decision. Stamp started fast and hard, hitting Rodrigues with precise combinations, with the Brazilian just one touch behind on each exchange. In the second round, Stamp continued to press, catching Rodrigues with timely combinations. Momentum changed slightly in a highly contested third round, when Rodrigues began ramping up production. In the fourth and fifth rounds, Rodrigues got ahead of the competition, punishing Stamp with sharp knees and elbows in the clinch. With Stamp fading late, Rodrigues took control of the match the rest of the way. In the end, Rodrigues came out with a majority decision to be crowned the new ONE atomic weight muay thai world champion. In the evening’s co-main event, CH7 Muay Thai World Champion Rodlek PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym emerged as the winner of the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Tournament after an imposing performance over compatriot “Left Meteorite” Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai. Kulabdam began the fight by firing her vaunted left hand, with Rodlek opting to box and counter. In the second round, Rodlek increased the pressure after receiving a cut to his forehead. A combination of a left hook and uppercut sent Kulabdam crashing to the canvas. “Left Meteorite” was able to beat the score, but Rodlek continued to punish him with heavy blows. In the third round, Rodlek dropped Kulabdam again, this time with a knee to the waist. Rodlek then crossed the rest of the fight to win by wide unanimous decision. As the tournament winner, he will now face ONE world bantamweight muay thai champion, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.

In a ONE Super Series Muay Thai contest, World Champion Kun Khmer Sok Thy from Cambodia was inserted back into the winners column, scoring a beautiful body shot from China’s main ONE Hero Series Muay Thai prospect Huang Ding. Sok Thy was aggressive starting the competition, attacking with a good mix of kicking and boxing combinations. A right hook to the sternum injured Huang, prompting a delayed reaction when the Chinese athlete fell to the ground. Huang couldn’t beat the count and Sok Thy took the victory by knockout.

Kicking off the action in ONE: A NEW BREED, Max Stadium Muay Thai champion Yodkaikaew “Y2K” Fairtex put on a masterful and surprising performance, defeating opponent Alex Schild of the United States by technical knockout. Yodkaikaew dominated early with thunderous fastballs and hooks. Schild was able to bring the action to the ground where he had the grip advantage, but “Y2K” escaped from the rear mount and was back on his feet. Yodkaikaew began to unleash his powerful leg kicks in the second round, constantly slicing through Schild’s base. In the third round, Schild could no longer defend himself from the onslaught of leg kicks, and the referee was forced to stop the fight.
