Some celebrities and fans of actors and real-life couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla called for the massive blocking of online trolls using the hashtag #WeBlockAsOne on Twitter.
Bernardo and Padilla, known as KathNiel, have been recent targets for bashers after giving their two pennies for the closure of media giant ABS-CBN, during an online protest on Wednesday, May 13. The hashtag, attributed to loveteam fans, is currently one of the most popular topics on social media after KathNiel fans defended the actors from a vlogger called “Banat By”.
The television network left the airwaves on May 5 to comply with the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), issued after the media company’s legislative franchise expired on May 4. Since then, actors and other television personalities have been participating online protesting as the franchise is discussed in Congress.

During the online protest, Bernardo and Padilla made statements that referred not only to the renewal of the television network franchise, but also to freedom of information, labor issues and more. Padilla also defended his fellow stars who have expressed their opposition to the closure of the television network.
After KathNiel’s statements went viral, the vlogger “applauded” Bernardo and Padilla for their good “performance” through their live Facebook on May 14. He also criticized the points made by the two actors during their live broadcast.
A few hours later, KathNiel fans started an online campaign to report, block, and silence trolls through the hashtag #WeBlockAsOne and #StarveTheTroll via KathNiel’s Twitter fan page, KN Social Media Moderators.
“Refrain from mentioning the name of the person who is going to live in FB,” said @KNSMModerators. “Let’s not give him a chance to be on the trending list.”
The Banat By Facebook page is still active as of this writing.

“We really have to give it to the #KathNiels for being a progressive fan base and for Kath & DJ for having the courage to speak out against injustice, “said one @vinceliban via his Twitter account the same day.
“But Banat By is still alive. Hindi na lang dapat KN magreport fans, “he added.” We all need #BlockAsOne! “

Spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo, the couple’s close friend, also praised fans of Bernardo and Padilla through his Twitter account.
“So not only do these fans organize relief campaigns on behalf of their idols, but do they also have their own anti-trol campaign?” Severo said. “I was going kayó, KathNiels. Go for them.”
