Metro Manila Police Chief Major General Debold Sinas is being beaten for his birthday party that violated quarantine protocols. Here are the stories that make ANC headlines today:

Not off the hook
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said a criminal case was being prepared against Metro Manila Police Chief Major General Debold Sinas. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Sinas was not out of danger even after the officer apologized. The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are conducting their own investigations. Sinas is calling for Sinas to leave or resign, but he rejected the suggestions.

Hammered by ‘Ambo’
As the Philippines recovers from the coronavirus pandemic, Typhoon Ambo (international name Vongfong) crashed into the country, making landfall in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar on Thursday. Many more areas in Luzon are in the path of the storm. The Department of Health (DOH) reminded local government units to practice social distancing in evacuation centers.

You can stay
The World Health Organization (WHO) said the coronavirus will never go away, as the global number of deaths is close to 300,000. In the Philippines, the death toll is now 790 with a case number close to 12,000.

OFW ayes
The Philippines has lifted restrictions on the departure of Filipino workers abroad. The labor department also said an additional P1 billion would be released to assist OFWs who lost their jobs due to the global pandemic.
