CATARMAN, Northern Samar – Residents, who were forced to leave their homes amid typhoon Ambo attack, observed physical distancing while staying inside evacuation centers in Barangay Dalakit on Thursday, May 14.
Serafin Chia, president of Dalakit, the largest town in Catarman, said they used the barangay room and classrooms at the town’s two public schools as temporary shelters for 172 evacuated families.
He said that the individual families stayed in separate rooms in the barangay hall.
A maximum of three families occupied each classroom in three buildings at Catarman National High School, the largest secondary school in northern Samar.
Lounge chairs were used to separate families.
School buildings at the Northern Samar Colleges (NSC) were also used as evacuation centers.
In Barangay Baybay, benches were used to separate the families who evacuated to the Barangay Chapel.
However, most evacuees did not wear face masks inside their evacuation centers because they got wet in the rain during the move.
