MANILA, Philippines: Kai Sotto’s decision to join the NBA G League was a bold move, but the 7-foot-2-inch graduate of Ateneo High School said entering the development circuit was the best option to fulfill a dream.
Playing in the NBA has been the goal of Sotto, a standout not only in the Philippines, but also in Fiba youth competitions, and he believes that joining the G League brings him closer to the world’s leading basketball association.
“Now I have to take the next big step toward my NBA dream. We have plenty of options available, but after all, I think this option is the best route to get closer to that dream faster, “Sotto wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
Sotto was a 4-star recruit in the ESPN rating system and attracted interests from American universities such as Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and DePaul.
Despite the interests of such shows, Sotto decided to join Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix on the new G League team.
To prepare for his journey, Sotto enrolled at The Skill Factory Prep School in Atlanta, Georgia.
“In the last year I learned a lot. I worked to improve my basketball skills, develop my body, and gain the confidence to play against the best basketball players in the world, “Sotto wrote.
“I am committed to working on developing my game on a much larger stage. My wish is that you continue to support me and my new teammates and pray for us and hope for all of our success and health as a team. “
