Pampanga mayors want ECQ, not GCQ, for another week

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Gov. Dennis G. Pineda announced on Wednesday that Pampanga will remain under a modified enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), contrary to the statement of Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque that Pampanga, under Region III, will now ease into a general community quarantine (GCQ) on May 16.

Based on the consensus of 22 mayors in a meeting at the Capitol on Wednesday, Pineda said he would appeal to the Inter Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and the Department of Health (DOH) to put the province under modified ECQ, rather than GCQ for a week starting May 16.

“The modified ECQ will give us enough time to prepare workers in the manufacturing, construction and other economic sectors as mentioned in IATF Resolution No. 35,” Pineda said.

He said the modified ECQ would also give local health authorities time to assess results of mass testing and for the Land Transportation Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to establish allowed transport routes. It was learned that provincial officials are open to making another appeal to reconsider another status other than GCQ.
