MANILA, Philippines – The Laguna provincial government appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) from being included in the list of areas to be placed under a modified improved community quarantine (ECQ).

Laguna’s public information officer Chris Sanji said Wednesday that the provincial government wants the province to be placed under a general quarantine of the community.

“Yes. Yesterday pa (as early as yesterday),” Sanji said in a telephone interview with INQUIRER.net when asked to confirm whether the provincial government had submitted a formal request to exclude the province in areas that would be placed under the modified ECQ.

Laguna is one of three areas to be placed under modified enhanced community quarantine from May 16 to 31, along with Metro Manila and Cebu City.

Sanji noted that other provinces in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) have higher cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), but they were not scheduled to be placed under a modified ECQ.

He said the province’s mayors will also meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss more details about the quarantine measures.

Movement of people in areas to be placed under the amended ECQ, which the IATF-EID has classified as “high risk” communities, will continue to be severely restricted, and most residents will only be able to leave their homes for food supply and food. other basic or emergency needs.

Some industries will be allowed to reopen in limited capacity, although the government has not yet finalized which industries will be able to resume operations.
