MANILA, Philippines – Scattered showers and thunderstorms will prevail in Mindanao due to the depression or extension of tropical depression Ambo, which may intensify into a severe tropical storm on Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said (Pagasa) .
In a 5 a.m. weather update Tuesday, Pagasa’s climate specialist Ariel Rojas said “Ambo” is likely to make landfall in Sorsogon or Albay between Thursday or Friday morning.
“A forecast hint, between Thursday and early Friday morning, Maglalandfall if Ambo participates in Sorsogon [or] Albay, Thursday, Thursday and Friday (according to the forecast, Ambo will make landfall in Sorsogon or Albay between Thursday and early Friday morning), “he said.
Except for Mindanao, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated showers due to localized thunderstorms on Tuesday, according to Rojas.
“Ambo” was last seen 285 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 340 km east of the city of Surigao.
Moving from north to northwest at 15 kilometers per hour (kph), it is accumulating maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gusts of up to 70 kph.
“Ambo’s” eye is forecast to be 280 kilometers east of Borongan city on Wednesday. Right now, it would already be a tropical storm, according to Rojas.
On Thursday morning, it will become a severe tropical storm with its central forecast 135 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar.
On Friday, “Ambo” will be located near San Narciso, Quezón, according to Rojas.
Rojas added that by Saturday morning, Ambo will leave the Western Philippine Sea and weaken in a tropical storm.
On Sunday morning, the Ambo center will leave the Philippines Accountability Area.
