Dana White rarely misses a chance to shoot Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza, but she blew up on Saturday night after hearing comments made on social media about UFC fighter contracts during the coronavirus pandemic.
The controversy began after Espinoza went to Twitter on Saturday night alleging that UFC fighters “were required to sign a document that says they can lose their entire purse and bonds if they say anything negative about the COVID protocols.”

A story was later published by Yahoo! Sports-related no-disregard clause was added to contracts for participants competing in UFC 249 that could potentially punish athletes for comments made about the promotion or established testing protocols to protect them.
At the UFC 249 post-fight press conference, White addressed the no-disregard clause, as well as Espinoza’s comments regarding fighter contracts.
“That’s not true,” said White, refuting Espinoza’s claims. “First of all, there is something in the contract for contempt. There is a contempt clause that is in all of our contracts. Isn’t that creepy little lawyer? Isn’t that creepy bastard a lawyer?
“Don’t you know what contempt means? If you look down on the company. I’m not even a screwed up attorney, and I know the answer to that question. It is contempt. It would be as if you went out and said, “They never tested me, the UFC never tested me for the coronavirus.” But if you were to go out and have something critical to say about the evidence that was true, that would not be disparaging. “
White and Espinoza have been involved in a contentious relationship for more than two years after they worked together in 2017 to help build the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor.
The two promoters reluctantly worked side-by-side throughout a media tour and the fight, resulting in one of the most successful pay-per-view of all time.
Since then, White has never been silent about his true feelings about Espinoza. It certainly wasn’t contained when the executive’s name reappeared after UFC 249.
