MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government received 150,000 COVID-19 test kits from the People’s Republic of China, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.

The Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, Huang Xilian, presented the donations to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Teodoro “Teddy Boy” Locsin Jr., and to the chief executor of the COVID-19 Working Group, Carlito Galvez Jr.

The donation also included 18,000 disposable monkeys.

The first batch of donations arrived on Saturday, while the rest will arrive on Sunday night on a chartered flight, DFA said.

The Chinese government has previously donated COVID-19 test kits and personal protective equipment as the Philippines continues to fight coronavirus disease, which started in Wuhan, China in late 2019.

The Philippine government also purchased medical supplies from China in response to the health crisis caused by coronavirus disease.

As of Saturday, there are 10,610 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, with 794 deaths and 1,842 recoveries.
