Celebrate Mother’s Day by hosting a movie marathon of some of the most moving Filipino movies with moms from memorable movies.
In line with the occasion, Cinema One is airing heartwarming movies on Sundays with stories revolving around mothers who are willing to do everything for their family.
Here are four movie moms who told long-lasting and heartwarming stories of a mother in local movies:
Sharon Cuneta in “Madrasta”
Sharon Cuneta plays a stepmother in “Madrasta”, where she struggles to adjust to family life with her husband (Christopher de Leon) and gain acceptance of her husband’s children from a previous marriage, played by Claudine Barretto, Patrick Garcia and Camille Prats. Cuneta’s portrayal of a stepmother trying to fit in while taking on the duties of motherhood earned her a Grand Slam victory for Best Actress in major award-winning bodies.
Sylvia Sanchez in “Mama’s Girl”
Sylvia Sánchez shows that a mother will support her son no matter what happens in “Mama’s Girl”. She is Mama Mina, a restaurateur and a single mother of Abby (Sophia Andres). Her journey centers on supporting her millennial daughter, who is facing love and career issues and is trying to carve out her own brand in the world.
Vilma Santos in “Anak”
One of Vilma Santos’ most iconic films is “Anak”, where she plays Josie, a mother of three children, including Carla (Claudine). Josie returns to the Philippines after working abroad as a domestic worker and faces the truth that her family has fallen apart in her long absence.
Iyah Mina in “Mamu; And a mother too “
Iyah Mina is a middle-aged transgender who becomes the unexpected mother of her transgender niece in “Mamu; And a mother too. Her debut role earned her the Best Actress award at the 2018 Cinema One Originals, making her the first transgender woman in history to earn a Best Actress award in the country.
