Private operator LRT-1 Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has resumed work on the 11.7 kilometer Cavite extension project after receiving the green light from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Department of Transportation (DoTr) to continue select repair and infrastructure work while the improved community quarantine is still in place.
The scheduled test work on the well (bridge and pipe inspection) required for construction along the Cavitex – Paranaque bridge began on May 7 (7 a.m.) until May 22 (11:59 p.m.). As a result, there will be a temporary closure of the innermost lane path (northbound) along the Cavitex – Paranaque bridge to make way for the necessary activities in the area during the same period. This was previously announced and rescheduled due to the government’s implementation of the improved community quarantine program on March 17.
Design work, assembly work, and selection tasks in the precast yard area are also underway for the Cavite Extension Project, which would see the LRT-1 line arrive in Bacoor, Cavite.
As part of DOTr’s request to allow the resumption of construction and maintenance work on current rail projects, LRMC has complied with the guidelines established by the IATF to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in its workplace. LRMC has implemented the following measures in its workplace at all times: reduce operations to a skeletal workforce; providing accommodation and point-to-point transportation services for workers; regular disinfection of all workplaces, transportation and accommodation; regular monitoring of staff health and Covid-19 symptoms; and imposition of physical distance and adequate hygiene
Preventive and corrective maintenance work, including replacement of air conditioning compressor units, is now in progress to ensure better service to the public when LRMC resumes LRT-1 operations. Public transport operations have been suspended since March 17 in line with the government-reinforced community quarantine imposed in Luzon.
Rest assured that we are seizing every opportunity during this time to better return for Filipino travelers. We are making great efforts to ensure that our workers remain safe and healthy by following the proper guidelines and precautions established by the government, “said LRMC chief operating officer Enrico Benipayo.
