Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) – The Inter-Agency Working Group COVID-19 adopted the resolution of the Department of Education to officially start the 2020-2021 academic year on August 24, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said on Saturday.
“In this resolution, the recommendations for basic education are simulated on August 24, 2020, and April 30, 2021.Roque said in a televised briefing.
[Translation: Based on the approved resolution, the opening of classes for the basic education curriculum will be on August 24, 2020. It will end on April 30, 2021.]He added that for private schools planning to open in June, online classes or home schooling are recommended.

We will utilize different learning delivery options, such as “distance learning” and homeschooling.]The presidential spokesman also revealed that the Higher Education Commission (CHED) will now be included in the IATF, as agreed by officials at their May 8 meeting.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Office of the Presidential Spokesman (OPS) will also be part of the working group, according to Roque.
Meanwhile, the Working Group on Strategic Communications of the National Working Group (NTF) COVID-19 will be headed by PAHO.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones previously said that classes for public and private schools will begin in August. But private educational institutions that want to open in June can do so, if the IATF and the Department of Health allow it, he clarified.
The Philippines now has 10,610 cases of COVID-19, with 1,842 recoveries and 704 deaths.
