Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) – Work on some public and private construction projects in areas under enhanced community quarantine will be allowed to continue, the Palace announced.
At Saturday’s Laging Handa briefing, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said part of the general guideline for the implementation of the community quarantine was amended to allow the continuation of certain construction and infrastructure projects.
Roque said the projects include the construction of quarantine and isolation facilities related to the COVID-19 response; facilities for personnel performing emergency work, flood control, and other disaster risk reduction and rehabilitation programs; sewerage and water services; and digital works.
“Priority public infrastructure projects, as well as private infrastructure projects defined as those relating to food production, agriculture, fishing, development of fishing ports, energy, housing, communication, water facilities, manufacturing and outsourcing of Business processes will also be allowed according to the guidelines issued by the DPWH, “said Roque.
He also said that DPWH-accredited construction workers will be able to go to their workplaces.
Previously, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said public and private construction projects in areas under general community quarantine may be resumed, but workers must follow strict safety guidelines to prevent infection.
Guidelines include evaluating workers before they can return to work and observing social distancing. Project sites must also have disinfection facilities and barrack areas where workers will remain for the duration of the project.
Villar said the contractors will spend for testing the workers.
