Andrea Bocelli’s “Music for Hope” concert on Easter Sunday from inside the empty Duomo in Milan was a beaker, the most-viewed classic live stream in the platform’s history. Bocelli’s performance, which began with “Panis Angelicus” as images of the empty streets of Milan and the panoramas of Bergamo and Brescia, two Italian cities deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, were shown on screen and ended with ” Sung outside the cathedral, “Amazing Grace” has attracted some 37 million YouTube viewers to date.
Bocelli will be part of what will surely be another historic and widely viewed event on Saturday, April 18, joining a lineup of stars for the One World: Together at Home special, curated by Lady Gaga in association with Global Citizen, a group known for their dedication to the eradication of poverty worldwide. More than 70 artists will participate, including names like Chris Martin, Elton John, Taylor Swift, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Billy Eilish and, just announced this morning, the Rolling Stones.
The goal of the event, says Global Citizen, is to support and honor medical and healthcare professionals who fight on the front lines during the pandemic. The transmission occurred as a result of the group’s efforts to raise awareness and help fight the disease, and to benefit the WHO Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund. Currently, close to $ 150 million Dollars have been raised for the fund’s Covid-19 response efforts. (For information on donations, click here).
TV stars late at night Tonight’s showJimmy Fallon, Jimmie Kimmel (Jimmie Kimmel live) and Stephen Colbert (TThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert), will host the show, which will air at 8 PM EDT on NBC, ABC, Viacom CBS Networks, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and other networks and platforms internationally. Global Citizen has partnered with the best artists during the crisis with a series of virtual concerts, part of their #TogetherAtHome series, with performances by Chris Martin, John Legend and Gloria Gaynor.
In addition to global reach, Global Citizen is working with a group of regional partners, including CDC Foundation, United Way of New York and Food Bank Canada to help with localized responses. The Global Citizen site includes suggestions for anyone who wants to help in their community, such as volunteering for the C19 Aid Squad to help people in need, either financially or with everyday tasks like shopping for groceries.
