Inside Jennifer Aniston’s decision not to invite mom to her and Brad Pitt’s wedding

Jennifer Aniston’s relationship with her mother was so strained that she did not invite her to her wedding with Brad Pitt.

The 51-year-old Friends actress has previously spoken about why she rejected her mother Nancy Dow from the big day and why she spent years without talking to her.

Jen previously said she did not get approval from her critical mother, who was a model in the 1960s and who also appeared on television shows, The Beverly Hillbillies and The Wild Wild West.

Speaking about her childhood years, Jen said, “She was a model and it was all about presentation, what she was like and how I looked.”

Jennifer said that because she didn’t turn out to be a model either, it was difficult for her mother to connect with her.

She compared herself to a plus size daughter of a former beauty queen: “I didn’t get out of the model girl I was expecting and it was something that really resonated with me.

“This little girl just wanted to be loved by a mother who was too busy with things that didn’t matter.”

During an interview with Elle in 2018, Jennifer said that her mother’s opinion of her was pretty harsh for the most part.

Jen said, “She was from this world of ‘Honey, take better care of yourself’ or ‘Honey, put on your face’ or all those strange bites I can remember from my childhood.”

What opened a gap between them was when Nancy wrote a book about her relationship with Jennifer.

After the publication of ‘From mother and daughter to friends: a memory’ in 1999, Jennifer and her mother did not speak for many years.

This meant that Jen did not invite her to her wedding to Brad Pitt and did not reconnect with her mother until just before her death in 2016.

However, her mother’s stinging words have stuck with her since childhood.

Jennifer Aniston was separated from her mother Nancy for years.

Jennifer said, “She was critical. She was very critical of me. As a model, she was beautiful, stunning. I was not. I never was.

“Honestly, I still don’t think about myself in that kind of light, which is fine. It was also very unforgiving. I would hold grudges that I just found so petty.”
