A. López street in Barangay Labangon is under total closure after a positive case of Coronavirus was registered in the area.

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Residents of Sitio A. López in Barangay Labangon can no longer leave their area following the announcement of a total lockdown there by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella.

Labella said in an official statement on April 14, 2020 that she had ordered the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to place the entire stretch of A. López Street and the sites within it under lock and key.

The street is shared by Barangay Labangon and Barangay Calamba, but the positive case of COVID-19 was registered in Barangay Labangon.

Captain Victor Buendia of Labangon Barangay said that blocking is the safest option with continued spread of the virus.

The Mayor also instructed contact tracing of all persons who may have surrounded or come in contact with COVID-19 patients.

The Labangon patient and the five other newly found patients in Barrio Luz have been taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for isolation.

Barrio Luz also closed Sitio Zapatera where a total of eight positive cases of COVID-19 were identified, one of which is symptomatic. Now they are staying in the hospital.

“Zapatera Site, Barangay Luz will continue in full confinement. I have instructed Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, acting city director of the Cebu City Police Office, to implement a total blockade in A. López, Barangay Labangon, “said Labella.

Once a total blockade is established, area residents will no longer be allowed to freely leave their homes or congregate in public areas.

Residents are confined to the site that has been closed and only medical personnel and police can enter the quarantined area.

The blockade can remain as long as the local government unit or barangay orders to do so. Barrio Luz chief Ronelio Sab-a said that even if COVID-19 patients will be isolated, the site will remain blocked by contact tracing, testing and quarantine.

At Sitio A. López, between 200 and 300 families will be affected by the blockade. Buendía said that they are now preparing to help affected families and ensure that their needs are met. / rcg
