Kobe faced Grant Hill’s brilliant defense in the final 34 seconds of the fourth quarter. He was carrying a load to the right side, a fake soft to the left, and Hill leaned on the opposite side. Just then, Kobe turned right, received a double bomb jumper, and directly into the basket from the 3-point line. Destroyed Grant’s defense. It was a sight to see! It was exceptional!
This remains one of the most beautiful Kobe fadeaways in his career. The public was shocked at what they saw. The commenter said: “You can’t defend that.” And yes you can’t. It was pure perfection and exhibition of days in the gym.
Kobe Bryant jokes about Alvin Gentry
The moment did not end there. Kobe held that shot and went to see Alvin Gentry and hit him in the leg. Gentry stood there smiling and laughing, probably thinking, “Damn it!”
It was like Kobe wanted to say, “How was that?”
It was funny how Gentry took it as part of a prank after Kobe extended the Lakers’ lead to 107-101 with that shot. Alvin Gentry still remembers this moment after Kobe’s death. Kobe’s gaming spirit is what he appreciated the most.
That shot was like a direct dagger at the Suns. Kobe’s escape was incredible, and so was the victory. The Lakers had reserved their place in the final against the Celtics. They also beat them to win the championship.
