The present of the parishioners despite the empty benches at Easter 2020

MANILA, Philippines – They may be locked up in their homes, but Catholics still made their presence felt in traditional rituals on Sunday, April 12, to celebrate the greatest feast of Christianity: Easter.

Masses remain suspended in Luzon and other parts of the Philippines, but Catholics managed to participate in Easter Sunday rituals, just as they did during Holy Week.

In the city of Angeles, Pampanga, photos of parishioners were recorded on the pews of the church inside the Santo Rosario parish during the Easter Sunday mass this year.

At the University of the Philippines at Diliman, a procession was held on campus and in residential areas to celebrate Easter.

The Easter vigil and Easter Sunday Masses were also broadcast live for the sake of quarantined Catholics. (You can see in Rappler the Easter Vigil Mass directed by the president of Athenaeum, Father Jett Villarin, SJ, and the Easter Sunday Mass directed by Pope Francis).

This is how the Filipinos celebrated Easter at the time of COVID-19.
