Well, this is not exactly the collaboration we expected. On April 29, Selena Gomez shared the doll version of her music video “Boyfriend,” and ARMYs noted that Jin and Jungkook of BTS from the Mattel collection made a cameo. And basically everyone is eager for a real-life collaboration with all seven members in the future.
Selena Gomez shares the doll version of “Boyfriend” featuring Jin and Jungkook from the Mattel collection
Gomez released the official music video for “Boyfriend” on April 10. Then a few weeks later, the singer featured the doll version on her YouTube channel. As the title suggests, the video recreates the frame by frame with dolls. And in both versions, Gomez dates several men before turning all of her suitors into frogs.
When Gomez released the video on April 29, many fans noted that Jin and Jungkook dolls from the BTS x Mattel collection are displayed. There is a clear shot from Jin around the 1:47 mark and eventually he turns into a frog. Meanwhile, ARMY noticed Jungkook’s red hair deep down at 1:06. Gomez’s doll version also passes the “Idol” costumes used by BTS from mark 0:47.
In his Instagram Stories, Gomez revealed that the doll version of “Boyfriend” was directed by the fan account @ selenagomez.doll. The user has been around since 2014 and has since produced multiple re-creations of Gomez’s work, from music videos to live performances. Since the massive fandoms back BTS and Gomez, the overlap is not surprising. But for now, it’s unclear if Gomez is aware of the BTS mini collaboration in the video.
BTS Fans React To Selena Gomez’s “Boyfriend” Doll Version
Even if Gomez is unaware of BTS’s presence in the doll version of “Boyfriend,” the unexpected cameos have been a pleasant surprise for ARMIES around the world.
“No way! Selena Gomez really used Jin and Jungkook’s mattel dolls in his latest new video, “wrote a fan on Twitter alongside a crying emoji.
“Jin and Jungkook’s lmao doll,” wrote a fan in the YouTube comments. “I never thought that my Selenator world and ARMY would collide like this.”
Meanwhile, other fans couldn’t help but make some lighthearted jokes about Jin’s acting debut in the music video “Boyfriend”.
“Not what I meant by loving actor Jin,” wrote one fan on Reddit.
“Did Selena Gomez really use the Seokjins Mattel doll in her MV? Wow Seokjin products are always so popular! ” another fan tweeted. “I can’t believe his doll and his son RJ got to acting before he did.”
But for the most part, the cameos reminded fans of how much they want a real collaboration between Gomez and BTS.
“When I said I wanted SG X BTS collaboration I don’t think it means this hahaha, “wrote a fan in response to the video.
“When bts finds out, he’ll be flattered by the video made by the fans, will tweet about it, Selena responds and finally I have a proper interaction AHHH” another fan tweeted.
In the past, all seven BTS members – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – have mentioned that they want to work with Gomez. Of course, we know that an official crossover remains to be seen. But for now, the doll version of “Boyfriend” will do.
