Infiniti’s ‘Carigami’ lets you build a scale model with your printer

It is not exactly recommended to be tearing up the roads right now, but after a long enough period in the house, cabin fever certainly begins to appear. To help mitigate the effects of being locked up, Infiniti has put together some paper ships that allow car enthusiasts to get a little creative.

Infiniti this week unveiled its “Carigami” paper craft, which allows people to print one of three vehicle designs and assemble it to create a three-dimensional model. These 1:27 scale recreations are unlikely to withstand serious abuse, but if you like concentration and not thinking about everything else in the universe, then these models should be a good way to melt a day or two.

While traditional origami generally only involves folds, Carigami relies on a few more tools. To build one of these models, you will need not only a printer and paper, but also a knife and craft glue. Sure, you could get brittle and try using a steak knife or something, though I doubt the end product is that accurate. Just print the template from the Infiniti website and start cutting.

Three models will be available as Carigami. A traditional Q50 sedan is offered, as well as the honkin ‘QX80 SUV, as well as the still-cool FX crossover from a longtime Infiniti line. It may not provide the same dopamine bump as a trip on your favorite roads, but that asphalt will still be here when the time is right.
