MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed a complaint with the Office of the Ombudsman against 86 personalities linked to the “pill scam”, including the alleged ringleader.
In a 27-page complaint dated November 3, but shared with the media on Thursday, the NBI filed a complaint for violation of the Corrupt Practices and Anti-Interference Act against the former head of the Port Operations Division of the Immigration Office Marc Red Mariñas, the alleged mastermind according to the NBI, and 85 other people.
Of the 86, four are senior immigration officers: Grifton San Pedro Medina, former acting chief of the Port Operations Division; Glennford Comia, Head of the Travel Control and Execution Unit at Ninoy Aquino 1 International Airport; Erwin Ortañez, head of the Border Control Intelligence Unit; and Er German Robin, Deputy Chief of Operations of the Travel Control and Execution Unit (TCEU) from 2017 to 2019.
The NBI complaint made use of testimony from immigration officer Allison Chiong that was revealed in the Senate last February.
Chiong previously alleged that immigration officials are involved in extorting money from Chinese citizens in exchange for the swift entry of foreigners to the Philippines.
