JAKARTA – The end of the year holidays are just around the corner. While the government is still assessing the impact of previous long weekends on the rise in new COVID-19 cases, a recent survey by online booking service PegiPegi found that 75 percent of Indonesians have plans. of traveling during the next vacation.
The survey, which involved 1,490 respondents and ran from November 9-16, found several interesting facts about travelers’ preferences during the pandemic, including their preferred modes of transportation and vacation types.
According to the survey, 45 percent of those surveyed plan to drive to other cities while on vacation, while 30 percent want to travel by plane and 11 percent will enjoy a vacation in the city.
When asked about concerns they might have about traveling during the pandemic, 66 percent of respondents shared that they were confident in the community’s compliance with health protocols and 65 percent of respondents believed the destinations they had complied with health and safety protocols.
As for the 25 percent of respondents who did not want to travel on vacation, 44 percent said they did not know when they were going to travel and 32 percent said they planned to travel sometime in the next year.
Busyra Oryza, PegiPegi’s corporate communications manager, said in a statement that, according to the survey, people’s confidence in traveling had increased.
“This is supported by the infrastructure in tourist destinations and the implementation of health and safety protocols, which make people feel more comfortable and safe,” said Busyra.
While traveling during the end of the year holidays appears to be a safe activity, the government has decided to evaluate it.
Indonesia previously recorded a 69-93 percent increase in its daily and weekly averages of new COVID-19 cases, 10-14 days after the long Idul Fitri vacation. Similarly, 10 to 14 days after the long Independence Day weekend of August 20 to 23, the country saw a 58 to 118 percent increase in daily and weekly averages of new cases. of COVID-19.
There was also an increase in COVID-19 cases after the long weekend in October.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy revealed the instruction at a press conference after attending a cabinet meeting on Monday.
