7 Abu Sayyaf bandits killed in Sulu clashes

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur –– Seven suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed in a pre-dawn battle near Sulare Island in the city of Parang, Sulu on Tuesday, November 3.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said one of Abu’s seven gunmen killed is Madsmar Sawadjaan, the younger brother of Abu Sayyaf bomb maker Mundi Sawadjaan, who planned the suicide attack in the center of Jolo last August.

The bandits were aboard a speedboat when they were intercepted by government troops. His ship sank as a result of the shooting.

Search and recovery operations are under way for the bodies of the Abu Sayyaf gunmen.
