6.2-degree earthquake shakes Mindanao | Inquirer News

MANILA, Philippines – A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck a large swath of Mindanao on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries after the earthquake that struck at 7:21 am and was centered 86 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and occurred at a depth of 16 km.

The agency initially placed its magnitude at 6.1.

Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum said there was no threat of a tsunami.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity V in the city of General Santos, Cotabato Sur; and Intensity IV in Kiamba, Alabel, Maasim, Glan, Malungon and Malapatan Saranggani; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao; City of Koronadal, Polomolok, Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato.

The tremor was also reported as Intensity III in Maitum, Sarangani; City of Cotabato, Maguindanao; Davao City; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Tantangan and Santo Nino, South Cotabato; and Intensity II at Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, North of Cotabato.

It was registered as Intensity I in the city of Zamboanga.
