Five people died in Cuba on Friday when their helicopter crashed on its way from Holguín province to Guantánamo in the east of the island, the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced.
The helicopter “crashed into a hill” and “all five people on board were killed,” the ministry said in a statement released by state media.
The ministry has created a commission to investigate what caused the accident, according to the statement. He did not give other details, including the identity of the victims.
The last serious plane crash in Cuba occurred in May 2018, when a plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the Havana airport, killing 112 people, with only one passenger surviving.
An investigation found errors in the calculations of the weight and the center of gravity of the aircraft.
Eight Cuban servicemen died in April 2017 in the crash of a Russian-made plane in the western mountainous region of Artemisa.
