MANILA – Four were confirmed dead while another 6 are missing Tuesday afternoon, a day after a landslide occurred at a copper mining site in the city of Toledo, Cebu.
In a statement Tuesday, Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC) said four bodies were recovered at its mining site after a landslide.
“[T]The Company solemnly regrets to report that this incident has claimed four lives. The Company continues its efforts to locate six more missing persons, “said CCC.
The CCC previously said that the landslide occurred around 4:15 p.m. Monday due to rains that have occurred in the area over the past few months.
It was exacerbated by tropical depression Vicky, which hit parts of Visayas and Mindanao over the weekend, they added.
The company said they have suspended all activities in the mining operations area while rescue operations continue.
CCC is an operating mine of the Toledo-based Atlas Consolidated Mining Development Corporation (ACMDC).
