Now there are 15 countries with more than 1,000,000 cases each. Peru will most likely be the 16th in the next few days.

  • Global fatality rate: 2.23 percent.

Editorial

The week in review

  • While there is a slight decrease in the growth rate for the average 7-day cases, there is an increase in cases in the pediatric and geriatric age group, as the government begins to relax the conditions on who can or cannot traveling outside of their homes.
  • As of December 7, the Rt was more than 1.0. This may influence the evolution of cases in the coming weeks.
  • Below is a summary of how the Philippines has been doing since the beginning of the pandemic.
  • There has been no significant decrease in cases in the last month. We need to work to bring the number of cases to triple digits and this has been a Herculean task for the government as each different agency tries to balance the economy with health. 2 While average deaths are slightly lower, they still do not reflect true conditions for the overall COVID-19 death rate.
  • While average deaths are slightly lower, they still do not reflect the true conditions of the overall death rate due to COVID-19.
  • While about 20,000 to 30,000 people are being re-tested daily, the positive daily rate is now in the light orange zone or between 3 and 5 percent. This is an ideal percentage. Bringing it lower to the blue zone (2-3 percent) is the goal. At the current rate of 1,000 people testing each day, only 30 to 50 people will test positive.

Among the selected Asian countries that are experiencing an increase in cases in the region, the Philippines is the only one experiencing a slight and slow decline in the number of cases per million population (per capita).
