MANILA, Philippines – At least three aftershocks were documented minutes after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Calatagan, Batangas and other areas of Luzon on Christmas morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Friday. .

The first aftershock, which has a magnitude of 3.2, struck 17 kilometers (kms) southwest of Calatagan, Batangas at 7:53 am It is also of tectonic origin with a depth of 102 kms.

Another aftershock, which registered magnitude 3.0, shook at 7:57 am, nine km southwest of the town of Batangas. It is of tectonic origin with a depth of 91 kms.

Ten minutes later, another aftershock, which had a magnitude of 3.2, struck 10 kilometers southwest of Calatagan, Batangas. It is of tectonic origin with a depth of 98 km.

Earlier, the 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck 11 kilometers southwest of Calatagan at 7:43 a.m.

The tremor, of tectonic origin, has a depth of 102 kilometers.

Phivolcs boss Renato Solidum said a tsunami is not expected after the quake.
