DAVAO CITY – A baby boy, who was less than a month old, died Saturday of the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to the Davao Region Health Department.
According to the profile released by the health department, the 25-day-old male baby lived in the densely populated Barangay 23-C in Davao city.
DOH Region 9 said it continues to investigate the child’s exposure history. However, according to data submitted by the Southern Philippine Medical Center where the patient was born and admitted, there were positive cases recorded in his overcrowded community.
Dr. Leopoldo Vega, head of SPMC, said that on May 7 the baby was taken to his hospital with LBM and fever, which are among the symptoms of COVID-19.
Two days later, the baby died with the final diagnosis of “septic shock secondary to neonatal sepsis, neonatal pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration, multiple electrolyte imbalance, and COVID-19”.
Some areas in Barangay 23-C were among the first to be blocked when they had their first COVID-19 case, as the local government feared rapid infection in a crowded community.
The government also conducted an intensified case search in some communities, including Barangay 23-C, as the number of confirmed cases continued to increase.
From 5pm. On Sunday, there are no new cases and deaths due to COVID-19 in Davao City, while two people have recovered.
