After last month’s official teaser, the Japanese automaker finally unveiled the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The revamped model features notable design updates, and one of the changes fixes what appears to be a styling issue from the outgoing model.
The updates are not radical from the start, with the changes seen primarily in the darkened grille and new front bumper protector, adopting the evolved version of Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield design concept.

The most functional upgrade to the revamped Eclipse Cross is at the rear. The redesigned hatchback and tailgate not only give the crossover a sleeker appearance, but also provide better visibility. The taillights are also modified for a wider presence when viewed from behind.
Inside, the updates aren’t extensive except for the new black and silver trim. The design was also modified slightly, placing the new 8-inch Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) system close to the driver and front passenger. Mitsubishi also dropped the touch panel controls for more touch volume and adjustment knobs.
While the 1.5-liter MIVEC direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine carries over to the revamped Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi said it will introduce a plug-in hybrid variant in select markets. Details of the electrified model are scant at the moment.
The Eclipse Cross 2022 will arrive for the first time in Australia and New Zealand in November of this year. The US market, on the other hand, will receive the updated model in the first quarter of 2021. However, Mitsubishi has no plans to bring the PHEV version to North America at this time.
