MANILA, Philippines – How the November 2021 bar exam will be conducted is still being studied, but one thing is final: Associate Judge Marvic Leonen, chairman of the bar exam, said “no will perform as before. “

Earlier, Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta said the Supreme Court was considering conducting the bar exams online, as in some parts of the United States.

The November 2020 bar exam was canceled due to the pandemic. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court announced that it would take place in November next year.

Leonen confirmed that the bar president’s team is studying the possibility of conducting “online but supervised bar exams.”

He said it can be an online but proctored test “or a combination of online and written tests in more than two places as part of the bar reform.”

“Accessibility to Bar Examinations and, therefore, geographic equity has always been one of the most important principles that have driven Bar Association reforms,” he said in a statement.

“I have provided general information to the full Court, but have not yet made a firm proposal until we have resolved all the logistical and security issues. I am also in constant consultation with the members of the Court and the presidents of the bar that will succeed me in 2022, 2023 and 2024, “he said.

“Definitely, the Bar Examinations will not be done as before. We have to adopt a better normality that is safe, effective and equitable, taking advantage of the best digital formats and at the same time recognizing the security and accessibility problems for some aspiring schools ”, he added.

The magistrate added that soon they will also coordinate with the law schools represented by the Philippine Association of Law Schools and conduct pilot tests to see the feasibility of various proposals.

“It is critical to the schedule to provide bar applicants with information well in advance of the scheduled exam so that they can be prepared to use the new modalities, if any,” he said.

For now, he advised aspiring Bar Associates to “study well, address the safety not only of themselves but also of their loved ones. The quality of your study will determine the quality of your results. Find inspiration in the possibility that you can be of greater service to our people. “

He said he will make more definitive announcements in due course once it is approved by the full Court.
