2021 Acura TLX 2.0T starts production, but Type S will have to wait

The 2021 Acura TLX is officially rolling off the assembly line in Marysville, OH. This marks the beginning of a new generation of Acura sports sedan, one that promises to be “the fastest, best-handling and best-equipped sports sedan in the brand’s 35-year history.” Heady words, considering the brand has produced many impressive sedans in the past few decades.

Both the standard TLX and the TLX Type S will be built side by side, and the engines lurking inside will be assembled nearby in Anna, OH. Only the standard TLX with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will be available initially, but the Type S and its 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 will arrive next spring.

The new TLX will join other Hondas and Acuras currently made in Ohio; the previous TLX was also made here. One new development that Acura is especially proud of is the TLX’s new laser-welded roof. It’s a new process for Acura that allows the roof to blend seamlessly with the side panels. We say perfect, because that’s literally what it looks like. Acura says there is no need to trim rain gutters to cover a seam.

These new sedans will be available in dealerships on September 28. We have complete pricing information for all models except the Type S. It ranges from $ 38,525 for a base 2.0T, to $ 47,325 for a fully loaded version. Pricing isn’t final for the Type S, but Acura says it expects a price above $ 50,000. It won’t be long until we can get our hands on a new TLX, so watch out for first impressions of Acura’s new sedan soon.
