MANILA, Philippines – Filipino ambassadors in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have been vaccinated against COVID-19, as Filipinos abroad are encouraged to take advantage of free vaccines offered by the governments of the two countries.
The Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, Alfonso Ver, said that the Bahraini government is providing free vaccination for everyone, including Filipinos abroad.
“The number of returnees from Bahrain, I would say, is not that much compared to others. And one indication is that they are here; they like to be here. Here they have the possibility of regularizing; here are opportunities. If I may add, the treatment they have received during this pandemic, they get free tests, free hospitalization and now everyone is entitled to free vaccination, ”Ver said at an online press conference from Bahrain on Thursday.
“Ako I’ve been tested here six times. Just call a number and you get [tested] and even vaccination, I was also vaccinated. I just signed up for an online application and there is even an option of which vaccine you want and in two minutes ready, ”he also said.

He said that Filipinos in Bahrain “are safe” amid the pandemic with the benefits the government is providing them.
“But of course there are also those who need it and if you need it, we are all ready to take it home,” he added.
“They say we are very lucky here. And in fact we are very lucky here, because of that total situation that the government provides these benefits and Filipinos know that they can take advantage of various official avenues or even on their own or even on their own by helping themselves, ”Ver said.
Bahrain previously officially registered China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine for public use.
Meanwhile, the Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Adnan Alonto, shared photos Thursday of him receiving the vaccine developed by Pfizer.

Last month, Saudi Arabia began its COVID-19 vaccination campaign using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
Answering questions in the comment section, Alonto said the vaccine is free for everyone. He urged Filipinos there to sign up for the Sehhaty app to schedule their vaccinations.
Free vaccines are praised
On Sunday, Sen. Cynthia Villar praised the free vaccination programs of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, which included Filipinos.
“We welcome the New Year with hope as more countries, including our own, prepare their respective COVID-19 inoculation campaigns,” he said in a statement.
He noted that Saudi Arabia has installed more than 550 vaccination stations in Riyadh and that more stations will be established in all other areas.
“According to Philippine Ambassador Adnan Alonto, the COVID-19 vaccination program in Saudi Arabia will also cover all of our OFW at the expense of the Saudi government,” the senator said.
Like Alonto, Villar urged Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW) in Saudi Arabia to register for vaccination.
Villar said that he will ask the Department of Foreign Relations (DFA) to report on the progress of COVID-19 inoculation programs in countries with a high concentration of OFW during the upcoming Senate Committee of Plenary investigation into vaccination plans. of the government itself.
“As more countries implement their respective anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaigns, we will see the anxieties of our OFWs and their families ease because the health and safety of our workers will be more or less assured in the next year,” he said. . .
The Philippines, Villar said, should now look at how other countries have launched their vaccination campaign.
“Let’s collect reports from our embassies and start looking at the best practices being done by other countries that are now actively establishing vaccination stations for their residents and foreign workers,” he added.
