MANILA, Philippines – Two Chinese men were arrested on New Year’s Eve for allegedly demanding P9 million in exchange for the release of a Taiwanese they detained in Cavite province.

The Anti-Kidnapping Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP-AKG) said Taiwanese national Chen Yen-Shau was rescued from a safe house at Villa Emmanuelle Town Homes in Barangay Toclong II-B in Imus, Cavite, the afternoon from Thursday.

The two suspect men Lu Cheng and Xie Long Hui were also captured.

The police acted in response to a complaint made by Jerry Wang, a representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Bureau.

PNP-AKG records indicate that Chen was allegedly abducted by a group of Chinese in the early afternoon of December 29 in the city of Parañaque.

Although detained, Chen was able to communicate with his mother through Facebook, where he told her that he had been abducted and brutally beaten by his captors.

Chen added that he owed a large sum of money to his employer and that a ransom of P9 million must be sent in exchange for his release.

PNP-AKG operatives initially searched for Chen at the Pearl Marina Tower in Parañaque. Later, Chen was found in a safe house in Imus.
