MANILA, Philippines – Two members of the ruling PDP-Laban party in the House of Representatives have joined the Lakas-Muslim Christian Democrats party.
Camiguin’s representative, Xavier Jesús Romualdo, and the representative of the Dinagat Islands, Alan Ecleo, were sworn in as new members of the Lakas-CMD on Tuesday.
House Majority Leader Martín Romualdez, president of Lakas-CMD, and Deputy Majority Leader Juan Miguel Arroyo, vice president of the Luzon party, led the swearing-in ceremony.
This brings the number of Lakas-CMD members in the House to 36 with 19 district representatives and 17 representatives from party lists.
“Lakas-CMD is gaining momentum in its goal of strengthening its ranks in the House of Representatives. We will continue this feat in the coming months by strengthening our support for our 19 regular members and 17 party roster allies, ”Romualdez said in a statement.
“The party will remain a strong ally of the government and will continue to support the speedy approval of President Duterte’s legislative agenda,” he added.
Lakas-CMD has produced two presidents: Fidel Ramos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who also served as presidents of the Chamber.
The party is chaired by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.
