SINGAPORE – There were 17 new confirmed coronavirus cases as of noon on Saturday (December 19), all of which were imported.

Imported cases were already placed on stay-at-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore when they were assessed, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ dormitories.

Saturday’s cases bring Singapore’s total to 58,403.

Among the imported cases are a Singaporean and two permanent residents who returned from the United Kingdom, India and the United States.

Eight other cases are work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who came from Indonesia and India.

The remaining six cases are holders of short-term visitation passes. Two came from the UK and India to visit relatives who are Singaporean or permanent residents, and one person came from Malaysia for a work project here.

The last three are members of the crew of a ship that arrived from Indonesia. They did not disembark from the ship and were tested for Covid-19 on board.

The Health Ministry said epidemiological investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, all identified close contacts of the cases have been isolated and quarantined.

Tests will be carried out at the beginning and end of their quarantine period so that asymptomatic cases can be detected, the ministry added.

Serological tests will also be performed for close contacts to determine whether the cases could have been infected by them, the Health Ministry said.

The ministry added that the number of new cases in the community has remained low, with no new cases in the last week.

With nine cases discharged on Saturday, 58,259 patients have made a full recovery from the disease.

A total of 38 patients remain in the hospital, none in intensive care, and 62 patients are still recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Nine new imported coronavirus cases were confirmed on Friday.

There were no new community cases and none of the workers’ bedrooms.

The imported cases included two Singaporeans and a permanent Singaporean resident who returned from India and Austria. All were asymptomatic.

The remaining cases are three work permit holders who are currently employed in Singapore, a dependent pass holder, a short term visit pass holder and a special pass holder.

The holder of the special pass came here from India to board a ship docked here as a member of the crew.

The Health Ministry said all imported cases were placed on stay-at-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, and were tested during that period.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 76.2 million people. More than 1.6 million people have died.
