MANILA, Philippines – A total of 137 Filipinos in the United States, including 18 front-line doctors, died from the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Philippine ambassador to Washington, José Manuel Romualdez, revealed Wednesday.
The virus has infected 253 Filipinos in the United States, excluding Filipino Americans. In New York and New Jersey alone, at least 40 Fil-Am health workers have died from the disease.
The latest death toll shows that the United States accounts for about half of the total of 261 COVID-19 deaths among Filipinos abroad, according to a report by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
