MANILA, Philippines – A total of 1,156 new coronavirus infections brought the country’s total active cases to 24,873 as of Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

DOH data showed that active cases comprise 5.5 percent of all infections that occurred in the Philippines, which is already 452,988. Recoveries, on the other hand, are now at 419,282 or 92.6 percent after 425 patients beat the disease.

Unfortunately, 21 more died for a toll of 8,833.

DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin showed that still, most active cases, or 84.7 percent, only experience mild symptoms, while 6.7 percent are asymptomatic or did not experience any symptoms.

On the other hand, 2.8 percent presented severe symptoms, while 5.7 percent of active cases are in critical condition.

Most of the cases reported Tuesday came from Davao City with 126, followed by Quezon City (66), Rizal Province (64), Bulacan (56) and Manila City (38).

The DOH said 1,303 of 23,567 tests performed Tuesday came back positive, though the department did not explain why not all cases were not included in Wednesday’s report of 1,156 new cases.
